A Local’s View of Bonita Bay
Nature is my thing. I love walking outside, butterflies and birds. Back in the day it was running. I was a super early bird.
For those who may not know, Bonita Bay is full of walking paths. It is really quite marvelous. Some paths run along marshes. Some run along the river. Others weave through preserves. It was tremendous foresight to build them. A community like this simply cannot be duplicated today.
One of the best runs of my life happened in Bonita Bay. I was all the way back by the towers, running toward the country club. Anyone who has run at a competitive level knows the moment. The endorphins hit, the weather is cool and you are having the best run of your life.
A lot of great things happened for me, my friends and my family in Bonita Bay. Jerry and I used to ride our bikes there. He was a dyed-in-the-wool Naples lover. The first time I took him into Bonita Bay, his mind was blown by the openness, the airiness, the nature, the vistas and the space between homes. He said it beat the socks off anything he had seen anywhere else.
My little dog, my friends and I used to take long walks to the parks inside Bonita Bay. There is one on Spring Creek near Pelican Landing and another off the Imperial River.
One of my favorite walks is the park back by the high rises. All of the parks have archaeological significance. This one also has a wooden boardwalk that winds through the mangroves to a little square pier on the bay. It is so private and peaceful. The mangroves buffer the water from the neighborhood.
If you have little people with you, they will want to climb up on that pier. There is a set of tourist-style binoculars, like the ones on top of the Empire State Building. There is not a little kid who can resist looking through them. Frankly, there are not many adults who can either.
