The Golf Course

The par-61 course plays about 3,400 yards from the back tees, with seven par 4s and eleven par 3s. The front nine features rolling terrain, sand traps and small water hazards. The back nine brings larger water hazards and doglegs, framed by a nature preserve. It is a course that tests the short game as much as the long game. After a round, golfers gather at the clubhouse grill.

A Local's View of Bonita Fairways

The West Terry Street corridor has been home for a good portion of my life, much of it in Brendan Cove and later on canalfront property in Bonita Farms. In my running days, Bonita Fairways was part of my regular route. Over the years I have had the pleasure of selling a great deal of real estate in nearly every section of the community. Many years ago, I even played the course myself.

One of my favorite golf stories involves my parents, who once lived near a public golf course. Early each morning my father would walk the course and collect stray golf balls from the brush. One fall, when they returned to Florida, they told me someone had stolen all of their golf balls. I had to tell them the balls were not stolen. They were all in the lake at Bonita Fairways.

I tried my hardest to clear that lake and simply never had the power. Then one day my ball finally made it across, only to roll back into the water. That moment rather broke my golfing spirit.

I still enjoy watching the Masters and attending the occasional tournament. My days of swinging at golf balls that will not clear a lake are behind me. Still, I will gladly cheer on any golfing friends or clients from the gallery.
