Imperial Shores is a small waterfront neighborhood in Bonita Springs, west of US 41 on the north side of Bonita Beach Road. The Imperial River runs along its northern edge and many homes sit on gulf access canals. Bonita Beach is about a mile away, close enough to walk or bike.

Walk or Bike to Bonita Beach
Location is the main draw. Bonita Beach is about a mile west along Bonita Beach Road, an easy walk or bike ride. Barefoot Beach, Lovers Key State Park and beachfront dining along Hickory Boulevard are a short drive.

Homes in Imperial Shores were built over several decades, from the 1950s to new construction. Many original homes are small for their lots, so owners have remodeled with additions or torn down and rebuilt to make the most of the property. The same pattern runs through nearby waterfront areas close to the beach, including Carolands and Kinleyland. A few duplex and multifamily properties are mixed in.
Imperial Shores has no homeowners association, no deed restrictions, no gate and no common amenities. Owners put their money into their own homes, docks and pools instead of association fees.

A Local's View of Imperial Shores
My team and I have listed and sold a variety of homes in Imperial Shores over many years. It is an area with a mixture of old and new homes. Many of the older homes have outlived the value of the land, so the highest and best use is very often to raze the home and replace it with a much larger structure that fits the lot. That is a common occurrence here.
It is also very easy to ride a bicycle or even walk to the beach from Imperial Shores.
I often say I have been in this business so long that it takes a lot to surprise me. Imperial Shores did. I once sold a vacant lot here that had midden mounds on it, so parts of the property were protected. It was my first experience with that. The home that could be built there needed different engineering, with limited pilings among other things. I walked through the whole process with city officials, engineers, surveyors and real estate attorneys. It is a skill set that may never be used again in my life. But it was a fascinating reminder of the people who were here throughout the history of Florida.
