We bought a house last year in Ft. Myers and have paid taxes on the much higher appraised value. Since the value of the home has declined considerably, we feel the taxes should also reflect this. We would like to know what we need to do in order to have the taxes reduced to the current appraisal.

There is an appeal process but you may be beyond that deadline at this point. Keep in mind, Your taxes are based on the prior years sales. You’re paying your 2009 taxes based on 2008 sales. Your 2010 taxes will reflect a lower tax based based on the low prices of 2009 sales.
