A Brief but Passionate Affair
This was almost the mailbox to a first time home buyer in the Bonita Springs-Estero area. Some houses just have a few issues that pop up that push them outside of budgeted repairs or even insurance guidelines or lately, mortgage guidelines. Anything can pop up during the home inspection. That’s what home inspections are for, to discover the unknown and unexpected issues that can be coming down the line.
Sometimes first time home buyers just have their heart so full of a house it hurts when they have to reevaluate their plan. There was a seriously disappointed buyer that stood beside this mailbox today. Do you remember the first house you tried to buy?

Just a random story, my first house I wanted to buy…
I was 18 years old and had the money for my down payment. I looked at many places, and then there it was. The prettiest house you ever saw in your entire life. It fit every requirement that I wanted and needed. A Beautifully renovated home, not just a house but a home, with four bedrooms and two and a half baths. It was kind of a big home for just two people, but I had a plan for every room. It had an open kitchen with a large living room. High vaulted ceilings, two car garage and the lot it sat on was the best in my eyes. Outback, sat the built in pool with a deck that framed the edges perfectly. I remember standing there picturing exactly where my grill would go. The house was in a great location and on the market for only $98,000. This was around 2001, right before the market went sky high. We put an offer in, and everything was looking great. Then I had my home inspection. It turned out that the owner was his own contractor and didn’t have permits for any of the work that was performed. According to Lee County, this beautiful 4 bedroom, 2 ½ bath, 2 car garage with a built in pool was only a 2 bedroom, 1 bath, 1 car garage with no pool at all. The county ordered the Owner to get “after the fact” permits which were extremely expensive for all the work he had done to this place. It was cheaper for him to tear down the work and return this gorgeous home back to its original condition. I still remember the lump I had in my throat when I got the news. But, I ended up buying a beautiful house about 6 months later, and you know what…. I made that my “home” for a wonderful 6 years.
